Trumansburg Central School District Mobile Learning Initiative
The TCSD is launching an exciting new initiative to provide 1:1 access to technology for our students. The initiative will begin with 5th and 9th grade this year and expand to the entire Middle and High School over the next 4 years. Students will be provided a tablet computer connected to the Internet via a cellular connection. The devices also have wireless capabilities to take advantage of wi-fi access where it is available.
The goal of the program is to provide access to the most up to date tools for research, writing, collaboration, and creativity. The devices will enable students to learn in the most innovative ways, work with both teachers and other students to express their learning, and access their work anywhere, anytime.
The tablet computers have a battery that will last throughout the day and provide Internet access wherever there is cellular or wi-fi coverage. The cellular connection is filtered to prevent access to inappropriate materials as required by the Children’s Internet Protection Act.
Google Apps for Education will be a key component of how the devices are used, allowing teachers and students to work simultaneously on documents and presentations regardless of time and place. Google Apps will allow teachers and students to access, share, and work together on documents regardless of the device used. The only software requirement is a modern browser.
Trumansburg Central School District believes that students should learn to be creative, collaborative, responsible, and constructive with modern tools used every day in the world outside of school. To that end, we are excited to begin using these devices our students this fall and in the future.
